How to Find Buried Property Pins and Boundary Markers
Before installing a fence, planting perimeter hedges, or pouring a concrete driveway, finding your official corner property pins prevents costly disputes. In most subdivisions, surveyors drive iron rebar or steel pipe flush with or just below the ground surface at every boundary corner.
Tools You Need:
- Subdivision Plat or Survey Diagram: Shows exact distances between corner markers in feet or meters.
- Ferromagnetic Locator or Metal Detector: Detects iron rebar buried 2 to 10 inches beneath grass and topsoil.
- Long Measuring Tape: Measure from the curb or known sidewalk reference lines to narrow your search radius.
Pins Missing or Disturbed?
If corner markers have been removed by grading crews or utility digging, only a licensed surveyor can legally re-establish them.
